Gulf Shores, AL
When living in the upper Midwest there is nothing better than a winter trip to the beach. We just got back from Gulf Shores, Alabama. We left about 8" of snow on the ground and 20-35 degrees for some spring warmth. During our drive through the middle of Alabama on the way down the temperature gauge on my car read "67 degrees" - we where so thrilled.
Getting out of the car to fill up shortly after taking the above picture was amazing. Now those of you that have had the chance to experience this know what I'm talking about. This was my first time heading south during the winter...
We had a great time. I recommend checking out Gulf Shores, AL if you are looking to stay a week on the beach and in your own beach house. There are several rental companies there (I don't work for them).. here they are: Meyer, Kaiser Realty, and Anchor Vacations.
Meyer was the one we used this last trip, but have had success with the other two in the past.
If you go things you must do!
- During the summer you must get there earlier like around 3pm... This place is great for kids as well. Go hungry!
- 18 hole course and is what I call a middle of the road course. Easy enough for beginners and challenging enough for the scratch golfers out there. Don't forget to get the cheeseburger and Miller high-life at the turn!
- The first time I went here it was like stepping back in time - everything looked new, but had that early 80s feel to it. You will have "here comes Swifty!" stuck in your head for awhile is the only downside.
You can't go wrong here - if you've never been to Gulf Shores, AL you are missing out on a great vacation spot!
